Young musicians in Shropshire might well be thinking of auditioning for the National Youth Orchestra.  The details will be useful:

“Any young musicians interested should visit www.nyo.org.uk to find out what’s involved and to begin an application. It’s completely free to apply and audition. The deadline for applications is Wednesday 1^st July!”

The support organisation run by parents and helpers called SYMPHO (Shropshire Young Musicians Parents and Helpers Organisation) will hold their AGM on 19th September 2009 at 1pm at Priory School, Shrewsbury.  Incorporated within this short annual meeting will be a concert performance by the Shropshire Youth Orchestra who will just have returned from their tour in France.

Shrewsbury String Festival will take place this year at Meole Brace School at 7.15pm on July 7th 2009

During the year a number of Shropshire schools have been encouraging their pupils to learn to play brass instruments during their normal curriculum.  The fine results of this initiative lead by Shropshire Music Service can be heard on July 6th and July 7th when the schools are brought together with other brass ensembles to perform in concert.  Walker Theatre (Theatre Severn, Shrewsbury) at 7.00pm

A celebration of our cello student’s success this year will take place at Christchurch, Bayston Hill at 715pm on July 6th 2009.

The Shropshire Youth Orchestra will be performing this term in Idsall School at Shifnal on July 5th at 6:00pm.

A joint concert with members of Shropshire Youth Wind Orchestra, Shropshire Youth Percussion Ensemble and Shropshire Girls Choir will be presented at 2:00pm on July 4th 2009 in Crowmoor Baptist Church, Shrewsbury.

A concert to celebrate the success of violin students will take place at 7:15pm at Christchurch, Bayston Hill on July 4th.

The English String Orchestra have been working in partnership with some of our string students and will perform together in the Theatre Severn on June 23rd at 7:45pm.  Discounted tickets for students learning with the service are available from John Fairbank.

Throughout the year a large number of schools have been offering violin tuition as part of their shcool curriculum.  this initiative has been led by Shropshire Music Service and the resuolts ofm this years work can be heard in the concerts ‘Class Act’ in the new Walker Theatre (at Theatre Severn, Shrewsbury).  The concerts will begin at 6:30pm on June 22nd and June 23rd.  Parents please note that your school will be involved in one of these two evenings - further details from school.
